Time to welcome the MACH Alliance?

Are you ready for total experience…? It’s time to welcome the MACH Alliance

We never get tired of talking to our clients about customer experience at DeeperThanBlue. It’s what we live for. But there’s a new kid in town. Total experience. If you haven’t heard of the phrase itself, you’ve no doubt encountered the conundrum it deals with. Likely every day in the life of your business.

Gartner highlighted this as one of the trends of 2021, defining total experience as combining “multi-experience, customer experience, employee experience and user experience to transform business outcomes… and improve the overall experience where all of these pieces intersect, from technology to employees to customers and users”.

Put simply, experience doesn’t end with your customers. It encompasses everyone that deals with your organisation every day. And it needs to be slick.

Reckon monolithic tech systems can keep up with the pace of this new agile, digital world? Yeah, we thought so.

Introducing the MACH Alliance

The MACH Alliance presents and advocates for an open and best-of-breed enterprise technology ecosystem. The ecosystem technology is: Microservices based, API-first, Cloud-native SaaS and Headless. With the following manifesto:

You can read a little more about what each of the MACH Alliance pillars mean here, but the key takeaway is that the MACH Alliance exists to encourage a shift from monolithic enterprise technology suites to more composable, modular architecture that better aligns with the digital-first world.

In a way that enables your organisation to cater for the total experience.

So, what does it mean for you and your business?

If you use a traditional single vendor tech platform, you instantly put yourself at risk of being trapped in a set of limited capabilities, waiting for the latest release to make improvements to how you do business.

Do you think your customers will wait for you to catch up? You know the answer to that already. While your business is effectively paused, user and customer expectations continue to change and disrupt the market at pace and scale. You simply can’t afford to wait around.

MACH technologies support a composable enterprise in which every component is pluggable, scalable, replaceable, and can be continuously improved through agile development to meet evolving business requirements. By making the different elements of your experience modular they become swappable, which means you can innovate faster and rapidly deploy new features.

And it’s not an all-or-nothing game

We’re not talking about a suite of technologies here; we’re talking about an approach. You could even call it a philosophy.

Through this approach, you now have separate building blocks which can be used to build solutions around the specific needs of your business. Every component is pluggable, scalable and replaceable. You don’t have to choose from a shopping list. It’s now flipped, and the needs of your business become your shopping list. One that continually changes and evolves – and that can now be catered for.

It sounds great, doesn’t it? But how do you make this a reality for your business?

The MACH Alliance is already working hard to ensure this alternative approach is clear, visible and omni-present. And they do so through:

  • Sharing technical knowledge about MACH, and why and when it is better than what a suite can offer.
  • Creating best practices that show businesses how to transition to a MACH architecture, as well as its products and services.
  • Leveraging case studies and peer-to-peer networking between organisations planning to make the transition with those that already have.
  • Listing and explaining selection criteria for enterprises, such as what to ask for when RFP’ing best-of-breed tech vendors, and what criteria to use during the selection process.
  • Publishing technical documentation, such as architectural blueprints and other technical content, demonstrating how to integrate MACH technologies.
  • Developing and hosting MACH Alliance events and serving as a collective resource at key industry events to demonstrate and educate the industry on the benefits of adopting an open, cloud-native, API first headless architecture technology ecosystem.

The future for your business?

In our current climate, it’s too easy to dwell on the pandemic and what it has meant for many businesses across the country, and across the world. But in this case, it has been a clear catalyst for digital transformation.

Take the example of retail. Users were forced online, their needs changed. And existing online customers became increasingly demanding. eCommerce organisations simply had to be agile enough to cope with this shift. This demand for total experience and ongoing agility shows no sign of abating. Monolithic tech systems simply can’t keep up with the pace of change. With a clear manifesto for taking the approach mainstream, MACH now represents an agile and bright future for many businesses across the world. Is it time for you to keep up with the pace of change?
